                                THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY

Once again Khushwant Singh strikes the cord of our heart.......not through comedy but,  through sentiments and emotions. What I have felt about this short story is that Khushwant Singh through this book has tried to convey to us about his unique and "one of a kind" relationship with his grandmother.

I liked the way he began his story, making the readers get connected to it completely. I just can't help the Grandmother in this shortstory with the one we have read in our previous class in the lesson "HOW I TAUGHT MY GRANDMOTHER TO READ" by Sudha Murthy.

In both the stories I have read, I found that in both the cases the grandmother was connected to her grandson/daughter and religious too. The part that I liked the most in this story was when the author came back from the University for the first time. His grandmother was there on the station to receive her. Having met after a very long time, she just clasped him in her arms  without saying a word but once again just saying prayers. This indeed is a proof of the existence of strong link and bond of love and friendship between the author and the grandmother.

Overall I found this book worth reading and definitely NOT a waste of time............

  3. Though what has been written seems quite a bit long bit overall it is a detailed and a well executed review.

  4. Good work madhav but I thought that you've missed the part that both grandmothers were waiting for their grandchildren but still a great review.
