Three days ago, I just finished reading "The Diary Of A Young Girl". I really appreciate the confidence Anne was having in writing a diary in such tough times. But, I would ask Bineeta Ma'm to give an answer to the query that I am going to present now -
At some dates, it appears that Anne is very much afraid of her situation in the Secret Annexe, thinking that she might get caught up by the Gestapo.......but at some dates it appears as if life has been too easy for her there.....don't you think that this difference in thoughts might confuse the reader not allowing him or her to get the feeling of pitiness that they must get on reading a diary such as this ? He or she might not think about Anne's position liniently or softly?

I am still reading the book but in my opinion anne never wanted the reader to have pity on them
they were trying to give a lesson of bravery and show or tell us that you can survive in tough times as they did
supporting the fact that HUMANS ARE BORN SURVIVORS

  3. Madhav,
you know what i think is at that point of time when Anne was writing her diary she would have never thought of getting it published.Actually to her it was just a companion and so there should be no point of sympathy in the eyes of a reader or anything of that sort.I agree with Akshat that Anne shared her good and bad times with the diary and fortunately taught us a way of overcoming tough phases of life.

  5. I cannot agree with you Aashi, because at one of the dates Anne clearly had said that if she would live by the sake of God, she would definitely let her diary get published so to tell the world about the horrors faced by the Jews........also Anne at the BBC channel once heard Winston Churchill's Speech saying that after the tough times are over, the diaries, memoranda's and any other written material would be taken and searched and then be made public to the rest of the world........so, I think that Anne should have utilised the oppurtunity she was getting..........

  6. Firstly: Madhav, you are very much correct that Anne wanted to be a writer and wanted to publish her diary. She has mentioned it a number of times about this.

Secondly: Your problem is a bit complicated. Her life had never been easy. (it may seem in some entries but definitely no!)She doesn't have to mention again and again that they only had one bathroom, space troubles in the house and eating peas and rotten potatoes very often. She just hasn't mentioned it over again, instead pointed out her other personnel problems, but that doesn't meant that her problems were solved or her life was eased.

Lastly: There is no need to feel pity for Anne, because she was a strong girl who had continued her diary until she could do. Pragmatically, you have to understand what she was going through, what she felt and how she dealt with her life, what type of a smut virus was Nazism on humanity. We have to understand that.

And from my opinion, thinking about Anne softly or pitifully isn't the answer. Try to put yourself into her shoes, and that might be enough to understand the story well.
